Today was the first thursday of the month and what that means is its vintage bike night at the GB Fish & Chips by my house in the Highlands.  Even though I got home a touch late (7 or so), I still managed to tear down the ‘office look,’ grab my camera and rip over to the bar with enough light and bikes to snap a few frames.

Here are a slew of shots of only a handful of the bikes that were there tonight.  It’s so cool to see what people can do when they put their mind to it…. whether its a restoration or a full on chopped up gnarly Harley, its all rad to me!

I got together with a couple of these folks this past weekend, both of whom I have known since High School in Ohio, and both of which have been living out of the country for the last many years…. Matt in China and a bit in SE Asia and Alex in Indonesia and Thailand.   We decided to make our way down to the Great Sand Dunes near Alamosa, CO and do a little rambling while we were at it (see weird UFO watch tower/bubble dome photo).  It was a perfect way to forget about the sometimes painful and overwhelming bits of reality back home and to just steep in the moment.

Over the last 7 years I have gotten to know a lot of people.  I’ve made some amazing friends and had some incredible times.  One person in particular sticks out as being a truly amazing and honorable individual, and that is my good buddy and all around American, Mr. Jonny P.

Jonny and I were roommates for a long stint down in South Denver and during that time we did a lot of ridiculous things. As I was sitting here tonight thinking about posting a single funny image of this great man, all the stories and images of the goofy things we did started to fill my brain and after a little digging a lot of those times surfaced as images.  So, it is with my great pleasure that I am posting a montage of sorts in dedication to one of the greatest people I know.

These next few are from a project we called “Goldman,” which stemmed from my impulse buying of an all gold body suit that upon further inspection did not fit me nor did it allow the wearer to see out of, thus nixing the Halloween Costume and creating our next great Hero! Shots were taken on the roof of our apartment and in the Sand Dunes Natn’l Park on our way to Wolf Creek (the few tourist that were there at that time had no idea what was going on!). 2009

Disclaimer:  He’s still alive… this isn’t one of those dedications to a great man gone…. I just wanted to share my little walk down memory lane!

The hut we stayed in is known as the Opus Hut and man, its phenomenal.  Recently built, it boasts lite electricity, a sauna, beds for 16 people and access to amazing skiing, all right off the back side of Ophir Pass… it almost made you feel guilty it was so nice!

Most of the weekend was spent skinning, skiing, or laughing so there weren’t too many photos taken, but here are a few of the few I shot during our 4 days getting to know a group of truly amazing people!

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.  Its one of those days that comes around each year and is, with out a doubt, going to produce more than a few laughs and memories.  This year really wasn’t much different as far as laughs and memories are concerned, however, this year we added a theme and had a mini-bouldering competition.

The theme was American Gladiators VS the WWF, which was both amazing and slightly daunting.  Amazing mostly because it was completely ridiculous; Daunting because of the spandex… and boy was there a lot of spandex.

All in all, I’d say the party was a success and everyone wore their respective character’s colors with nothing but the utmost integrity!

Here are just a few of the moments that really made me laugh…. enjoy!

A few years back I got a call from one of my best friends, Greg, who lives in Alaska as an arborist.  This wasn’t by any means out of the ordinary, as we tend to keep in touch on a regular basis, however, this call was different.  Greg was psyched, a little too psyched actually.  As it turns out he had been driving home from work in Anchorage when he spotted something elusive…. something that doesn’t come around everyday in AK…. Now your probably thinking “What was it?… the northern lights… a rare and endangered species thought to have been extinct!?!”  No.  Greg had seen a beautiful blonde girl standing on the shoulder of the Seward highway, arm raised and thumb out.

Now if you’ve ever been to Alaska (especially if you’re a guy), you know that beautiful girls are a rarity, an endangered species if you will.  Of course, he did what any kind-hearted gentleman would do in his position, he slammed firmly on the brakes, narrowly avoided an accident and opened the door of his old, beat up truck to offer the girl a ride.

Dominika, as it turns out, lived in his old apartment, was single and had only recently moved to AK from her native Poland. It was a one in a million encounter and it wasn’t long before I got another call informing me that they were moving in together.

Amazing, my best friend had met the woman he would eventually marry…. on the side of the highway, in a state affectionately titled, “The Last Frontier.”  It was a chance encounter that can only be chalked up to fate.

So, when he called me a few weeks after Ali and I got hitched and told me that he was getting married himself, I wasn’t too surprised.  I wasn’t even surprised when they wanted me to photograph it.  What was surprising was when they were getting married.  At that point it was mid-September and I was still recovering from my wedding and shooting out of state weddings with Ali every weekend.  Since neither Dominika or Greg were what you would call “loaded,” they were going to do it low-key and DIY…. in other words, the ceremony was at the courthouse in Anchorage with close friends and family, and the reception was at a cabin back in Girdwood, where they generously supplied guests with kegs of AK’s finest brew, cakes that Dominika had made herself and Salmon that Greg had caught during the “dip netting season.”  It was a casual, yet down home wedding in fantastic Alaskan style!  Oh and did I mention we got to see the Northern Lights in FULL tilt on the night of their wedding…. incredible!

Greg and Dominika, I love you guys and I only hope that the images I caught during that week convey the love you two have for each other!

Here are some shots from the last few months that I just never got around to posting… mostly because I was lazy… and for that I apologize.  Either way, I think they are worthy of showing to the world.

Staunton State Park will be open to the public come October 27th, 2012; however, if your like me and really can’t wait for cool things check out his Facebook page and sign up to help build trails on October 14th!!  But for now, here’s a little preview of what the future Front Range crag has to offer!
